General Information: Effective April 1, 2021

Important Points

Prior appointment may be sought for submission of the application for issue/reissue of passport by writing at cons.berlin@mea.gov.in. Alternatively, passport application can be sent by post to the Embassy.

To apply for Passport Services at the Embassy of India, Berlin, it is necessary to fill up the application online.

The Online application form is available at https://portal6.passportindia.gov.in

All Passports will be issued only after verifying the credentials of the applicants.

Consular surcharge of Euro 2.00 shall be levied on all consular services.

The size of the photograph is 2” x 2”.

Payment is accepted preferably through Bank transfer. Debit/Credit cards are not accepted.

Processing of   the complete  passport application may take up to seven weeks. Please refrain from making enquiries during this period.

Note: New passport can be issued more than one year before the expiry of the current passport.

  1. Re-issue of new passport due to EXHAUSTION OF PAGES/EXPIRATION OF VALIDITY/CHANGE IN APPEARANCE

Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).Applicants who have been resident abroad continuously for over five years and hold a permanent residence/work permit/permanent visa are required to submit proof of the same.

Proof of address (if changed).

Letter from Auslaenderbehoerde (local German Immigration authority) stating (a) requirement of a passport for visa purposes and not for deportation  (c) non issuance of  a German passport/travel document. The  letter is required to be got translated in English language from an authorised translator.

Sworn affidavits from the applicant that no passport/travel document has been issued to him/her by any foreign country.

Note:

(i). Transit passengers whose passport is lost/damaged can be issued a hand written Short validity passport/ Machine readable passport. Issuance of Machine readable passport may take minimum of 15 working days.

(ii). Transit passengers whose passport is lost/damaged and returning to India can be issued an Emergency Certificate, if they desire so. An Emergency Certificate, (one way travel document) which authorises an Indian national to enter India, is issued to a citizen of India whose passport has been lost, stolen, or damaged and to whom new passport cannot be issued immediately. This service is primarily extended with the objective of ensuring his/her return to India. The final decision of issuing an Emergency Certificate is subject to a detailed examination by the Embassy. It might also require certain clearances from the concerned authorities in India and/or the concerned Indian Missions/Posts abroad.  Documents required for issuance of an Emergency Certificate are :

  1. Passport to a NEW BORN CHILD

Note:For a child born in Germany to be registered as an Indian citizen the application must be made within one year of the child's birth on the prescribed form. At least one of the child's parents must be an Indian citizen at the time of applying. Enclose passports of both parents and  birth certificate of the child with photocopies of the birth certificate along with the application. If  birth registration of the child  with the Embassy  is sought after one year of  birth of the child,  the parents of the child are required to  state the reasons for the same in writing. Additionally, an   affidavit needs to be submitted  by the parents stating that the child has not acquired German nationality. Local authorities should also confirm non-acquisition of German nationality by the child. The passport issued is valid for five years.

Fee - EUR 42 (Euro 40+ Eur 2)    + EUR 27, 00 (Eur 25.00+ Eur 2.00) for Birth Certificate

Note: For fresh passport application, a rebate of 10% on basic Passport fee will be applicable for minor applicants up to the age of 8 years.<

  1. Replacement of passport due to CHANGE OF NAME after marriage, remarriage or divorce.

Self declaration in case of separated/divorced persons. The passport application form does not require the applicant to provide the name of his/her spouse in case of separated or divorced persons. Such applicants need not provide Divorce Decree.
